CLAY COUNTY — Maggie Nurrenbern, a Democrat, will be heading back to Jefferson City, but this time to the state Senate after taking 51% of the 87,090 votes cast in Senate District 17 in Clay County. Vote counts are based on uncertified results from Clay County Election Board.
Current Clay County Presiding Commissioner and Republican challenger Jerry Nolte garnered 39,568 votes or 45%.
Nurrenbern, who has served as state representative in Missouri House District 15 since 2020, said she is grateful to voters for choosing moderation over extremism.
“I’m really grateful to them for giving me a voice in the state Senate,” she said after the win Tuesday night, Nov. 5. “I’m ready to get to work. This campaign has been a heck of a lot of work and I give a lot of credit to my opponent, Jerry Nolte. He graciously called me just moments ago to concede the race. I’m grateful to him for his public service to Clay County and I look forward to working with the Clay County Commission and all interested parties to move Clay County forward and do what is best for all us in Clay County. I look forward to representing them in all in Jefferson City.”
Nurrenbern will serve a four-year term. The seat is currently vacant after fellow Democrat and most recent Sen. Lauren Arthur was term-limited out of office.
