GLADSTONE — The second Gladstone Theatre in the Park musical takes the stage Friday through Sunday, Aug. 2 through 4, at the Gladstone Amphitheater in Oak Grove Park, located at the intersection of North Troost Avenue and North 76th Street. The production starts at 8:30 p.m. nightly.
This musical opened in 2015 on Broadway and now opens nine years later as part of Gladstone’s free theater offerings.
The musical is set in 1595 and follows the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who struggle to find success in the theatrical world as they compete against the ragingly popular William Shakespeare.
The main characters are Nick Bottom, played by Areeb Lodhi, a 2024 Liberty High School graduate; Nigel Bottom, played by Nathan Middleton; Portia, played by Katie Kaminski; Bea, portrayed by Martha Allen; and Shakespeare, played by Bryan Davis.
“Something Rotten!” is directed by Gladstone Theatre in the Park alum Brett Buffum.
Erin Buffum takes on the responsibilities of the vocal music director; Sarah Bezek, choreographer; Tessie Kempf, stage manager; Ted Horowitz, accompanist; Angela Roath, conductor; Gabby Ferro, lighting designer; and MJH Media Group, sound designers.
At 3 p.m. on a show day, community members can gather at the top of the hill with chairs and blankets. A city employee will do a countdown and then guests can run for the best spot they can find ahead of the show. Once a spot is claimed, it is saved.
All blankets and chairs must be removed at the end of each performance.
