Recently Gwen O’Brien, Feed Northland Kids’ executive director shared that Feeding America released its annual report and interactive map on food insecurity across the country.

“As many of us anticipated, hunger is on the rise and we feel the impact every day at Feed Northland Kids through the schools and families we serve. The need isn’t slowing down,” she shared.

According to the report, more than 12,000 Clay and Platte County children are now experiencing food insecurity — a 9% increase from last year.

“With the continued support from donors and volunteers, we bring real food to real tables across the Northland. We recognize that school-aged children often signal a broader family need, and that healthy meals shouldn’t be a luxury for any household in our community,” she wrote in a message.

O’Brien said it currently costs Feed Northland Kids $2,000 per day to provide healthy meals and snacks to students and their families across the two counties. Donations can be made feednorthlandkids.org.
