CLAY COUNTY — The Northland Shepherd’s Center, 5601 NE Antioch Road, is located in an area with low-income households that experience food insecurity. According to the charity, food insecurity affects more than 3,000 older adults and that number is expected to grow in the years to come.
“With very few food-security programs addressing the health and nutritional needs of older adults, NSC is now providing a place for older adults to shop in a dignified manner and help supplement their needs,” reads a statement from the organization.
Clients can utilize the pantry up to twice a month if needed, but it is by appointment only. Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the fourth Thursday of each month also being the Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry distribution.
The pantry is open to Clay and Platte County residents age 60 and older who are willing to complete a benefits check-up to determine if they are eligible for other state and federal programs like SNAP, Medicaid and area utility discounts. An intake form is required on the first visit and verification of age, ID, income and residency are also required.
To schedule an appointment, call 452-4536.
