Gladstone Theatre in the Park presents ‘Elf’

GLADSTONE — The second show of the summer season for Gladstone Theatre in the Park will be this weekend and the holiday show “Elf.”

“Elf The Musical” will be Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1 to 3 at Oak Grove Park, 76th Street and Troost. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. The blanket run is 3 p.m. each day of the show.

The familiar story of Buddy the Elf will take over the Gladstone Amphitheater this weekend.

The musical is based on the cherished 2003 New Line Cinema hit, “Elf” features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar (“The Wedding Singer”) and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s “Aladdin on Broadway”), with a book by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan (“Annie” and “Hairspray”) and Bob Martin (“The Drowsy Chaperone”).

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Buddy the Elf is played by Tyler Wilson; Jovie is Melanie Grantham; Chad Swofford is playing Walter Hobbs; Trenae Baker, Emily Hobbs; Abel Affleck, Michael Hobbs; and Drew Jones as Santa Claus.

Chelsea Smet is serving as the director for “Elf The Musical.”
