GLADSTONE — The plan to construct an event center at the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum took another step forward Monday, July 28 with the authorizing of a contract with Centric Construction Group for the construction.

The council also passed an ordinance amending Title V, Business and Occupation, of the city code to update Chapter 110 Alcoholic Beverages, Articles II and III, to allow for the licensing of wine manufacturing and domestic winery operations in Gladstone.
Through the consent agenda, the council approved the following:
• A special event permit for Sidwellhomes-Re/Max Revolution hosting Client Appreciation Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Happy Rock Park West;
• A building permit for North Kansas City School District at Oakwood Manor Elementary School at 5900 N. Flora Avenue;
• A tesolution authorizing Change Order No. 6 to the contract with Linaweaver Construction for the FY25 Water Main Replacements; and
• Considered monthly financial update June year-to-date 2025.
At the earlier July meeting, the council passed an ordinance authorizing the city to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Clay and Platte counties to develop a collaborative digital platform promoting regional tourism and economic development across the two-county region.
Additionally, the council approved a resolution revising the city’s purchasing policy.
Resolutions authorizing contracts with Vance Brothers for the FY26 Intermediate Maintenance Program and with Metro Asphalt for the FY26 Mill and Overlay Program were also approved by council.
