Event center planning begins for Atkins-Johnson Farm

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone City Council approved a resolution Monday, Oct. 14, authorizing a contract with Shape Architecture for the architectural design and planning of an event center at the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum.

Marye Newman, the museum manager and part of city staff, said the Friends of Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum volunteer group have been part of the planning process.

“It’s a very exciting project for all of us,” she said.

The council also issued a proclamation at the meeting declaring November as National American Indian Heritage Month.

The council also passed a resolution authorizing the destruction of records in accordance with state statute.

A resolution was also passed by the council authorizing change order No. 1 to the contract with Maguire Iron for the design of the Water Tank Renovations Project.

The council also approved a change order to the contract with Infrastructure-Solutions for the FY24 Water Main Replacements and the Storm Drainage Project.

Council members also passed an ordinance amending the city code to address tampering with the property of another.

The meeting concluded with council passing an ordinance amending the city code by adopting elections changes to the plan provision of the city of Gladstone’s Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System.
