LIBERTY — Deputies are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred Feb. 6 in Clay County Detention Center in Liberty.
Detention officers located Kenneth E. Scott, 63, during a routine cell check that morning, said Sarah Boyd, the sheriff’s office public relations manager.
“They called for an ambulance while on-site medical staff attempted to resuscitate Scott. He was declared deceased in the detention center shortly before 8 a.m.,” she said.
While an investigation is ongoing as is required, the sheriff’s office reports Scott’s death appears to be from natural causes.
“Scott entered the jail on Nov. 19, 2024, and was being held on two counts of first-degree robbery for cases in Liberty and North Kansas City,” said Boyd, who told the Courier-Tribune an autopsy is being done.
