CLAY COUNTY — State political newcomer Ken Jamison, a Democrat, won the Missouri State House District 15 seat Tuesday, Nov. 5, with 9,589 votes, or 51%, of the votes cast, according to uncertified results from the Clay County Election Board. Challenger and Republican Mike Jones took 46%, or 8,523, votes.
District 15 covers a portion of Clay County including Kansas City-North, Gladstone and Oakview.
On Election night, Jamison thanked his family, especially his wife and step-son, for their support.
“Mike Jones was a great opponent who ran a great campaign,” he added. “He already called me to congratulate me.”
Jamison said he believes voters in the district appreciate that he was raised in the district.
“They put their faith in me,” he said. “Regardless of political affiliation, my job will be to represent everyone. I am going to be laser-focused on representing the people of this district.”
Jamison said he knows that as a freshman representative, there will be a significant learning curve.
“I want to focus on jobs, wages and health care,” he said.
Jamison also spoke of Maggie Nurrenbern, who previously served as the House District 15 representative before winning election Tuesday to the open State Senate District 17 seat.
“I know I have some big shoes to fill coming after Maggie,” he said. “I’ll do my best to fill the seat well.”
