CLAY COUNTY — Veterans Day 2024 will be Monday, Nov. 11. Several communities will honor veterans on this day.
Gladstone
Students, staff and teachers at Antioch Middle School, 2100 NE 65th St., will hold its Veterans Day Assembly Friday, Nov. 8, in Gladstone. The assembly starts at 9 a.m. in the gym.
Liberty
The Liberty Public Schools’ Salute to Veterans Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Discovery Middle School, 800 Midjay Drive in Liberty.
There will be a brief program following at approximately 8:30 a.m. During the program, students will honor area veterans, including those on staff.
Also in Liberty, the annual Veterans Day Celebration starts at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the Liberty Community Center meeting rooms, 1600 S. Withers Road.
The celebration is hosted by Liberty Parks & Rec., American Legion Post No. 95 and VFW Post No. 4043.
This year’s event will include guest speaker Councilman Shelton Ponder, a performance by the Heritage Middle School Choir, presentation of the colors, veterans call to attention and more. There will also be light refreshments.
The event will also honor veterans Paul Ellison from the American Legion and Joel Womack from the VFW.
Smithville
Staff and students at Smithville High School, 645 S. Commercial Ave. in Smithville, will honor veterans with an early morning breakfast as well as an assembly. The breakfast starts at 7 a.m. and the assembly begins at 7:40 a.m.
Also in Smithville, American Legion Post No. 58, 2607 Missouri Highway 92, will have free chili for veterans starting around 11 a.m. A baked potato bar will be slated for dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal for non-veterans to eat.
At 7 p.m., there will be an USO show by the Grateful Americans.
