Civic groups clean Revolutionary War vet’s grave

CLAY COUNTY — Shoal Creek Questers and the William Boydston Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter will complete a joint project at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, to clean the headstone of William Boydston, a Revolutionary War veteran, who was the first person buried in Faubion Cemetery in Gladstone. The effort is part of a larger, ongoing community effort to beautify the cemetery.

“Faubion, a family cemetery, is receiving a facelift. It has long been mowed and given attention by the nearby Faubion Methodist Church,” reads a release from the Questers group about the effort. “In partnership with the church, the Quester chapter has funded, solicited donations, weeded and taken on the project to beautify the grounds. Thirty-five tombstones were cleaned and one large tombstone has been reset. Future plans for the cemetery include further cleaning, signage mapping the graves and history of the early Clay County settlers, who are buried here.”
