Children’s events coming to Atkins-Johnson Farm

GLADSTONE — Two children’s events will explore gardening.

Up first is the Children’s Garden Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 12 at the Atkins-Johnson Farm & Museum.

Admission is free. The annual Children’s Garden Day program is in partnership with the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City. Visit the farm’s heirloom vegetable and herb garden where families will learn about gardening and the importance of growing food. Garden tours will be available for visitors led by experienced master gardeners, in addition to kids crafts.

Second, there is Mad Science at the Farm Wednesday, July 16.

“Take Root & Sprout” is 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 6 to 12.

Children will learn about parts of the plant, photosynthesis and the ones that thrive at the Farmstead. Each camper will place their very own plant in the special garden provided. A similar plant will be sent home so they can compare their plants throughout the summer.

Register at the front desk of the Gladstone Community Center, online, or by phone at (816)423-4200. Online registration is available at gladstonemo.activityreg.com/ClientPage_t2.wcs.
