Court therapy dog receives award

The annual Crystal Kipper & Ali Kemp Memorial Award was presented to Rasta, a Northland courtroom therapy dog, and the golden retriever’s handler and owner Jennifer Vernon. The award, presented each spring, honors the memories of murdered teens Ali Kemp and Crystal Kipper.

New Longridge Road bridge open

CLAY COUNTY — Located on Longridge Road to the east of Stockdale Road in rural Clay County, the Longridge Road bridge was reconstructed and is now open to traffic. The new bridge, measuring 72 feet in length, features a steel girder structure with a concrete deck accommodating two lanes.

Red Cross blood drives this month

CLAY COUNTY — Since July 1, Red Cross reports the national blood supply has fallen by more than 25%. “It’s critical hospitals have both type O positive and O negative blood ready to go for patients in the most life-threatening situations,” said Eric Gehrie, executive physician director for the Red Cross.
