GLADSTONE — There is roughly two months before Gladfest 45, the fall festival that will take place Oct. 4 to 6.

GLADSTONE — The annual Atkins-Johnson Sunflower 5K Run/ Walk benefiting the Friends of the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum and the North Kansas City Schools Education Foundation will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 24 at the farm, 4109 NE Pleasant Valley Road, Gladstone.

CLAY COUNTY — The 2024 Look North Leadership Award will be presented to Dave Johnson, founder and owner of Chicken N Pickle, at the annual Clay County Economic Council event Sept. 13.

CLAY COUNTY — Since July 1, Red Cross reports the national blood supply has fallen by more than 25%. “It’s critical hospitals have both type O positive and O negative blood ready to go for patients in the most life-threatening situations,” said Eric Gehrie, executive physician director for the Red Cross.

Juan Gomez, Bailey Ashton, Ashley Long, Sky Pearson, Kerwhin Valette-Toirac and Ashlee Joplin were named to the winter 2024 president’s list at Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester. The winter term runs from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.7 for the reporting term are named to the president’s list.

CLAY COUNTY — The county public health center of Clay County awarded Food Safety Excellence and Pool Quality of Excellence Awards for outstanding efforts in 2023. In 2023, the Environmental Health Protection Section of Clay County Public Health Center conducted 416 routine recreational water inspections.

Summer has quickly come and gone and backto- school festivities are kicking off. Parents understand that a strong start to the school year begins with a healthy child and a visit to the doctor.

Starting school for the first time or returning to campus after another summer break can lead to mixed feelings. For students in Kearney and Smithville school districts, the first day of school is Aug. 20 and in Liberty, it’s Aug. 21.
