Candidate filing for April ballot open

Candidate filing for elected offices on the April 2025 ballot for Gladstone City Council and area school boards opened Tuesday, Dec. 10. The following are details on how to file to appear on the ballot and the number of seats open.

Gladstone

There will be one seat open on the Gladstone City Council for election. Councilmen serve a three-year term.

To qualify, a person must be 21 years of age prior to taking office, a U.S. citizen, resident of Gladstone for one year and a registered voter.

Candidate filing closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. Declarations of candidacy must be made in the office of the City Clerk, Gladstone City Hall, 7010 N. Holmes St., between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

City Hall will, however, be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25.

All candidates must also comply with Missouri conflict of interest and campaign finance laws.

All candidates, prior to 5 p.m. on the first day of filing, will be eligible to participate in a random drawing to determine ballot order. At the time of filing, the candidate will draw a random number, and the ballot order will be in ascending order. Candidates that file after 5 p.m. on the first date of filing shall be listed in the order filed and after the candidates participating in the random drawing.

North Kansas City Schools

There will be two seats open on the North Kansas City School District board open. School board members serve a three-year term. Those interested may file at the administrative offices located at 2000 NE 46th St.

Filing is open during the district’s regular business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Filing will not occur on days that the school district’s offices are closed due to inclement weather. Filing will also not occur on the following days when the school district’s offices are closed for winter break, from 11 a.m. Dec. 20 through 3 p.m. Dec. 31. The district administrative offices will be open for filing from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, with filing ending at 5 p.m. that day.

Ballot order will be determined by the order of candidate filing with the exception of the first day of filing, when ballot placement will be determined by random drawing.
