Police are investigating a shooting that occurred about 5:43 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 9, at North Oak Trafficway and NE 64th Street, according to a press release from the Village of Oakview.
911 callers reported someone had been shot in the convenience store parking lot on the northeast corner of the intersection. The victim, a male 17-year-old, was transported to an area hospital. He is in critical but stable condition. The suspect fled the area and is not yet in custody.
According to the Oakview Police Department, there are several leads on the suspect and there is no immediate danger to the public.
Detectives ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the shooting to contact the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Additionally, investigators are trying to identify a Good Samaritan who had been traveling on North Oak and stopped to intervene. Detectives would like to speak with him.
The Oakview Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Gladstone Police Department. The Riverside Police Department also provided on-scene assistance.
