Gladstone announces new transportation service to replace IRIS

GLADSTONE – The city of Gladstone has partnered with GEST, a national transportation service, to launch a new on-demand, door-to-door ride program beginning Sept. 1, according to a city’s press release.

The Gladstone City Council helped bring this partnership forward as rising costs for the IRIS microtransit program created challenges for long-term sustainability. This program will replace the IRIS service that has been available to Gladstone residents.

GEST will provide direct rides to destinations within Gladstone city limits. The program will also provide rides to the nearest operating bus stop and to healthcare facilities and medical offices in North Kansas City, Parkville, Liberty, Riverside, and portions of Kansas City within Clay or Platte counties. Service will operate 7 a.m.to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, with fares set at $3 per ride. Residents can schedule trips through the GEST app or by calling 816-919-4378 (GEST).

“Due to ongoing funding challenges and rising costs for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) and its IRIS program, the city of Gladstone has partnered with GEST to provide a new, flexible transit option tailored to residents’ needs,” said Gladstone Mayor Les Smith.

GEST leadership emphasized their excitement to serve Gladstone residents.

“GEST is proud to bring our innovative transportation model to Gladstone, offering affordable service that keeps residents connected to the places they need to go,” said Patrick Dye, founder of GEST.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Gladstone City Hall, 7010 N. Holmes St. All are invited to attend and help celebrate the launch of GEST in Gladstone.

The city will work with GEST long-term while continuing to monitor transportation needs in Gladstone and the region. Service hours, fares, and service areas may be adjusted over time to reflect resident feedback and ensure the program best serves the community.
