CLAY COUNTY — Due to funding from the Clay County Opioid Settlement Fund, Clay County Public Health Center recently purchased eight new Narcan distribution boxes.
Five new boxes are now available across Clay County, offering free and easy access to a life-saving tool. The remaining three boxes will be placed soon and will bring the total number of Narcan boxes coordinated by CCPHC to 11, according to a release from the health center.

The three existing locations are at the Clay County Public Health Center 800 Haines Drive. There is a box in the lobby open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The second is open 24 hours and seven days a week at the Birmingham Fire Department , 507 Hardwick St. The third is at the Excelsior Springs Good Samaritan Center, 108 S Thompson Ave. The box is in the lobby and open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Five new locations are found around the county:
• Smithville Chamber of Commerce, 105 W. Main St., Smithville. The box is on the porch and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
• North Kansas City Public Library,2251 Howell St. The box is on the library lobby, Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office detention center, 14 S. Water St., Liberty. The box is in the detention center lobby and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
• A Turning Point, 1900 NE Englewood Rd., Gladstone. In lobby, near pantry and available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday; and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.
• Beacon Mental Health Services, 3100 NE 83rd St. The box is in the lobby from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Narcan is a medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids when given in time. It can be helpful for anyone to have access to because anyone can overdose. This includes older adults who accidentally take the wrong medication, children who accidentally access and take pills, anyone who ingests a pill from an unknown source, and many more scenarios.
