GLADTONE — Barbecue is returning to Gladfest.
The Gladfest Smokefest BBQ Competition, happening Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4 in downtown Gladstone.
This two-day event will be a major highlight of Gladfest—Gladstone’s annual celebration that brings the community together with incredible food, live entertainment, and family-friendly fun.
At Smokefest, it’s all about the ribs — but there’s more on the grill. All teams must compete in the Kansas City Barbeque Society one-meat ribs category. To be eligible for the Grand Champion title, teams must also enter the ancillary ribeye steak and baked beans competitions. Prize money totals over $2,000, with payouts increasing based on participation and sponsor support, according to the city.
Assistant City Manager Austin Greer is serving as the lead on the contest.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the turn-in time for ribeye steaks is 7:30 p.m.
There is no entry fee; each team provides their own ribeye steak but mandatory for Grand Champion contention.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, the meat is ribs and turn-in time is 1 p.m.
There is an entry fee; each team provides their own ribs, ingredients and mandatory for Grand Champion contention.
The ancillary side is baked beans with a turn-in time of 1:30 p.m.
