After more than seven decades of serving the community, Winnwood Elementary School, 4531 NE 44th Terrace, will officially close its doors at the end of the school year as students prepare to transition to their new school, Greenway Elementary. To commemorate the history and impact of Winnwood, the school will host a special open house event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4. This “Last Look” event invites former and current students, families, staff, and community members to gather, reminisce and celebrate the school’s legacy, according to a district press release.
Guests can enjoy light refreshments, explore photo galleries showcasing Winnwood’s history and take tours of the school building one final time. The open house offers a chance for all who have been part of the Winnwood family to say farewell and honor the memories made during the school’s 70+ years of service.
Greenway Elementary will open this fall combining students from Winnwood and Lakewood Elementary. Greenway was constructed on the former site of Lakewood.
“We look forward to continuing the Winnwood legacy at Greenway, where we will carry forward the values of community, learning, and growth that have defined Winnwood for generations,” said Winwood Elementary Principal Aaron Barnett.
