Worlds of Fun opens May 3 with park upgrades, events line-up

Worlds of Fun theme park officially opens for the 2025 season on May 3.

“There’s been a lot happening in the park since we closed last October,” said Rick Fiedler, vice president and general manager of Worlds of Fun. “And it will be worth the wait. Right now, we are putting the finishing touches on our offseason projects and getting ready to welcome our first guests on Saturday, May 3.”

This season, Worlds of Fun has invested in its Africa-themed section, headlined by improvements to the popular Zambezi Zinger and Prowler roller coasters, according to a park press release.

The park’s newest coaster, Zambezi Zinger’s signature spiral lift hill is transforming from open air to fully enclosed, creating a whole new experience while improving the ride’s operations.

The Prowler, Africa section’s 16-year-old wooden roller coaster, has replaced 400 feet of roller coaster track.

Two rides, Mamba and Zulu, will have new color schemes this season. Both rides have been repainted.

New shade structures have been added throughout the park.

Worlds of Fun is also bringing back its some popular events this summer.

The Worlds of Fun Season Passholder Preview Day will be Sunday, April 27. Worlds of Fun 2025 Silver and Gold Season Passholders will get a special preview of the upcoming season.

KidZfest runs Saturdays and Sundays, May 31 through June 15.

This family-favorite event invites guests to “join in on exciting dance parties, feast on delicious treats, enjoy kid-friendly rides and check out interactive games and activities.”

Plus, there will be live entertainment for those young hearts and the young at heart.

On Friday, July 4, the theme park will host Star Spangled Night. There will be a fireworks display synchronized to the stirring tunes of patriotic music. The park will remain open until 9:30 p.m. as guests celebrate America’s independence.

KC Nights are Saturdays and Sundays, July 12 to July 27. This summer celebration will feature live entertainment, food and drink options and experiences aimed at reflecting Kansas City’s rich culture.

Oceans of Fun will open for the season May 24.
