Gladstone voters head to polls April 8

GLADSTONE — Voters in Gladstone have one seat up on the Gladstone City Council, two seats up on the North Kansas City School Board and a bond issue from the school district to vote on Tuesday, April 8.

Incumbent Bill Garnos faces challenger Molly Marie Gibson for a three-year term on the Gladstone City Council.

For the North Kansas City School Board, six people filed for two seats. The position is a three-year term. The candidates are Jason Russell, Aryn Peters, Roy Copeland III, Jessica Rezac, Daniel Wartick and Carolyn Mason.

The school district is also seeking approval for $175 million in general obligation bonds. The improvements include new performing arts additions to Oak Park and Winnetonka high schools, renovations to Northgate and New Mark middle schools and a new gym and updates to Oakwood Manor Elementary.

The bond would also cover the purchase of the Northland Innovation Center, new air conditioners to replace those from the Cool Schools initiative 20 years ago and school buses.

Polling places open at 6 a.m. and stay open through 7 p.m. If voters are in line at closing time, they can still cast a vote.

If a voter is confused about polling locations, the Vote Center at MCC Campus, 2601 NE Barry Road, will be open on election day for all Clay County registered voters.

Checking in to vote also requires an ID. An acceptable form identification must be shown and then sign the poll book to obtain a ballot: a nonexpired Missouri driver or non-driver license; a nonexpired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card; a nonexpired United States passport; or another photo ID issued by the United States or the state of Missouri which is either not expired or expired after the date of the most recent general election.

If these forms of identification are not presented, but the person is a registered voter, the voter may cast a provisional ballot.
