GLADSTONE — Four proclamations were presented at the March 24 Gladstone City Council meeting, beginning with the declaration of April as National Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. The proclamation also recognized Logan Eaton, a young man with autism, for his achievements.
Additionally, Friday, April 4 was declared Arbor Day in Gladstone in honor of the city’s 23rd year as a part of Tree City USA.
The week of April 13-19 was also recognized as National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week to show gratitude to the officers dedicated to helping all animals in the community.
A final proclamation was made declaring April 13-19 National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in honor of the women and men whose diligence and professionalism keep Gladstone safe.
The council approved a proposal from Schulte Supply to provide new hardware, software, and training associated with the City’s Automated Water Meter Reading System.
Through the consent agenda, the council approved the following:
• A special event permit for Nexus Flexus, a one-round flex-start PDGA C-tier disc golf tournament sponsored by Dynamics Disc KCMO, at Hobby Hill Disc Golf from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29;
• A special event permit for a weekly flex-start singles disc golf league at Hobby Hill Disc Golf hosted by Dynamics Disc KCMO on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. April 1 to Sept. 30;
• A special event permit for Big Shoal Heritage Area Farm at Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum from April 1 through Nov. 30;
• A special event permit for Big Shoal Cemetery Tours at Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18;
• A special event permit for Photos and Cookies with Santa at Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6;
• A special event permit for Holiday Nights at Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6;
• A special event permit for Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Happy Rock Park West from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11;
• A special event permit for Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Linden Square from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2; and
• Considered monthly financial update from February to year-to-date 2025.
