At last year’s Stuff the Bus event at the Gladstone Walmart, boxes of school supplies filled the seats. This year’s event will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3. Donations of school supplies are sought to provide for those in need in the North Kansas City School District.

Hundreds of Northland students will have new backpacks, binders and pencils to start the school year thanks to North Kansas City Schools’ Stuff the Bus event.

A school bus will be parked for two days, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3, at the Gladstone Walmart, 7207 N. Missouri Highway 1. Shoppers can purchase school supplies to donate during Missouri’s tax-free weekend and help stuff the bus. Volunteers will be on hand to collect donated items.

Last year, 144 boxes full of school supplies were collected and distributed to students throughout the district.

Collection times are noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Donated school supplies will go directly to students in North Kansas City Schools. Donations can also be made between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the Thomas P. Cummings Administrative Center, 2000 NE 46th St.

District families in need of supplies should contact the office of the school where their child is enrolled to make a request.
