Oakwood Manor Elementary teacher receives Walmart grant

Oakwood Manor Elementary teacher Rebecca Dollins receives a grant from Michael Schneider, the Walmart store manager of the Walmart Neighborhood Market.

North Kansas City Schools' preschool students will have the opportunity to explore an outdoor wonder lab through a grant from Walmart.

Oakwood Manor Elementary teacher Rebecca Dollins recently accepted the $2,000 check at the Walmart Neighborhood Market near Antioch and Vivion roads. The grant is made possible through Walmart’s Community Grant Program.

Dollins plans to create an outdoor wonder lab classroom for her students at  Gladstone Elementary School on Elmwood Avenue. Funds will help purchase an outdoor easel, planters, outdoor instruments, outdoor sink area, sandboxes, outdoor toys and building materials.

Dollins, who said she is thrilled with the grant, explained, “This unique outdoor space will expand students’ imaginations by allowing them to investigate, create, learn and experiment. We appreciate Walmart’s support for preschool students and recognizing the importance of preparing them for a successful educational experience.”

The wonder lab is scheduled to open the spring of 2021.
