At 10 a.m., Sammie Scott, the dietitian at the Gladstone Hy-Vee, 7117 N. Prospect Ave., will take participants on a tour to look at foods that may help lower cholesterol and high blood pressure.

The Northland Art League will hold a Holiday Art Show of art works by its members at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 4947 N.E. Chouteau Drive, Kansas City, from 5 to 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Friday evening event will include snacks and wine. From 1:30 to 5 p.m., the Brass Rail Sports Bar, 4940 NE 81st St., will be the location for an afternoon of Texas Hold’em play, raffles and a silent auction. The Kansas City Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association is hosting the event and will use the proceeds to encourage positive interactions between community residents and officers and provide toys and other items to help comfort young children involved in situations where officers are called to respond. At 3 p.m., the Northland Community Choir presents its fall concert, “Music of the River.” The concert raises funds for restoring English Landing Park after the flooding this spring. The concert is in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel at Park University. Suggested donation is $10.

At 7 p.m., comedian Emily Lenza performs at The Groundhog Day Theater. She brings in guests and admission is $10. The show is for those 18 and older.
