The Alpen Speilers will bring the music of Germany to Friday in the Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at North Kansas City’s Festival Pavilion in Macken Park, located at Howell Street and Clark Ferguson Drive. All concerts are free and open to the public and features a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses.
The Women of Rock will perform at 7 p.m. at Linden Square, 602 N. 70th St. The Women of Rock are sisters Barbara and Lisa Bowman, who, with their band, perform songs of well-known female rock artists of the 1970s and 1980s such as Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar and Heart. The Sounds on the Square shows are family friendly. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating.
Celeste Torrence and headliner Rod Reyes will be at The Groundhog Day Theater, 6906 N. Oak Trafficway. Admission is $10. The show is designed for those 18 and older. A chance for stand-up comics to get stage time, try out new material or hear jokes in a supportive atmosphere will follow as part of an open-mic event. Sign up for an open-mic event at 9:30 p.m. The show starts at 10 p.m. The event is hosted by Hilary Hope.
Saturday, Sept. 21
The Gladstone Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, crafts, baked goods and other items from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the access street behind City Hall, located on the north side of Northeast 70th Street, next to the Linden Square bandstand and park.
At 10 a.m., there’s a family fun day at Vine of Life Family Church, 6404 NE 68th Terrace, near the Shoal Creek Police Academy. The free event includes carnival games, bounce houses, face painting and dunk tank. Special guests are local mascots KC Wolf and Sluggerrr around 11 a.m. The event ends at 2 p.m.
A visit from the Exotics R Us group, who will bring animals to the library, will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Antioch branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library, 6060 N. Chestnut Ave. Call 454-1306 to register.
An Overeaters Anonymous support group will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at North Kansas City Hospital, 2790 Clay Edwards Drive. For details about this free event, call 691-3069.
Sunday, Sept. 22
Mick the Maintenance Guy and guests Lynn Navratil and Jerad Langley will perform at The Groundhog Day Theatre. Mick and three invited guests perform every fourth Sunday starting at 7 p.m. The show is for those 18 and older. Admission is $10.
Monday, Sept. 23
At 10 a.m., senior adults can take a strength-training program called Life Improving Fitness Training at the Northland Shepherd’s Center, 5601 NE Antioch Road. Call 452-4536.
At 6:30 p.m., is a chance to learn accounting basics for food truck owners at the Antioch library branch. At 6:30 p.m., there are English as a Second Language classes for adults. Call 454-1306 to register for these two classes. At 7 p.m., the book group Monday is for Mystery will meet.
At 7 p.m., the Gladstone City Council will meet for a regular session in the council chambers at 7010 N. Holmes St.
