Saturday, Sept. 7

At 7 a.m., there will be free biometric screenings at the Gladstone Hy-Vee, 7117 N. Prospect Ave. At 10 a.m., the dietitian will take visitors through the store to talk about general health information. Register at the customer service desk or ask about the screening details.

The Gladstone Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, crafts, baked goods and other items from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the access street behind City Hall, located on the north side of Northeast 70th Street, next to the Linden Square bandstand.

A chance to obtain gently-used formal wear provided free by the Green Prom Movement Foundation will be at the Antioch library branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library, 6060 N. Chestnut Ave. The day runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starting at 10 a.m., the Big Shoal Country Fair opens at the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum, 4109 NE Pleasant Valley Road. There will be music, crafts, food and demonstrations throughout the day. Admission is free. The outdoor event will be canceled if there are storms.

Sunday, Sept. 8

At 2 p.m., the Young Comedians at The Groundhog Day Theater will perform scripted and improvised material. At 7 p.m., Emily Lenza offers her comedy. Admission is $10 for those 18 and older.

Monday, Sept. 9

At 10 a.m., senior adults can take a strength-training program called Life Improving Fitness Training at the Northland Shepherd’s Center, 5601 NE Antioch Road. Call 452-4536.

Starting at 10 a.m., there will be a Chatty Crafters craft group at the local Mid-Continent Public Library. For every current-dated, boxed or canned nonperishable food item brought in by a patron, $1 of overdue fines will be removed from his or her account up to $10.
