The swing group MEL-O-TONES will bring the music of Germany to Friday in the Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at North Kansas City’s Festival Pavilion in Macken Park, located at Howell Street and Clark Ferguson Drive. All concerts are free and open to the public. Every event features a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses.
The Rusty Laffoon Band of Kansas City will blend southern rock, country, blues and an eclectic collection of cover tunes at 7 p.m. at Linden Square, 602 N. 70th St. The Sounds on the Square shows are family friendly. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating.
Ryne Thorson and headliner Mike Saccone will perform at The Groundhog Day Theater, 6906 N. Oak Trafficway. Admission is $10. The show is designed for those 18 and older. An open-mic night will also take place. Sign-up is at 9:30 p.m. with the show starting at 10 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 28
The Gladstone Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, crafts, baked goods and other items from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the access street behind City Hall, located on the north side of Northeast 70th Street, next to the Linden Square bandstand and park.
Bennett & Dennis Herrick Memorial American Legion Post 626 members will be holding a Bridging the Generational Gap community walk starting at 9 a.m. at Happy Rock Park, 7600 NE Antioch Road. There will be snacks and lawn games too.
The last regular season Saturday chance to ride the Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad will be in Frank Vaydik Park, 6060 NW Waukomis Drive. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fare is 75 cents.
