At 1 p.m., the dietitian at the Gladstone Hy-Vee, 7117 N. Prospect Ave., will take people on a tour to look at foods that may help with a diabetic diet. At 4 p.m., the dietitian will take participants around the store for a tour to talk about food that may help with health issues such as diabetes and heart disease.

The Little Mr. and Miss Gladfest contest begins at 6 p.m. in Linden Square. The band Midnight Rodeo will be playing at 7:30 p.m. on the Linden Square stage.

Mike Rice Hall, Emily Lenza and headliner Lynn Navratil will be performing at 8 p.m. at The Groundhog Day Theater, 6906 N Oak Trafficway. Admission is $10 and the show is designed for those 18 and older. A chance for standup comics to get stage time, try out new material or come for laughs in a friendly, supportive atmosphere is also available. Sign-up is at 9:30 p.m. with the show starting at 10 p.m. The event is hosted by Hilary Hope.

Saturday, Oct. 5

The Gladstone Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, crafts, baked goods and other items from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the access street behind City Hall, located on the north side of Northeast 70th Street, next to the Linden Square bandstand and park.

The Gladfest parade, celebrating the 40th year, begins at 10 a.m. It will march around the Linden Square area. There will be children’s activities and vendors. The band 4 Fried Chickens and a Coke plays at 7:30 p.m.

An Overeaters Anonymous support group will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at North Kansas City Hospital, 2790 Clay Edwards Drive. For more information about this free event, call 691-3069.

The 26th Annual Scarecrow 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Walk begins at 7:30 a.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Northland Christmas Store. The race will take place at Gladstone’s Linden Square.
