At 10 a.m., the dietitian at the Gladstone Hy-Vee, 7117 N. Prospect Ave., offers a free heart health nutrition walk to tour the store and share foods that may lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
At 7 p.m., the 2019 Sounds of the Square concert series at Linden Square, 602 NE 70th St., continues with the Steamboat Bandits, a bluegrass band from Kansas City. The Steamboat Bandits were formed at a local bluegrass festival in 2013. Instruments played consists of guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and upright bass.
At 8 p.m., Steve Kramer, Emily Lenza and headliner Rod Reyes will be at The Groundhog Day Theater, 6906 N. Oak Trafficway. Admission is $10 and the show is recommended for those 18 and older. Hilary Hope hosts an open-mic night at 10 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 10
The Gladstone Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, crafts, baked goods and other items from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the access street behind City Hall, located on the north side of Northeast 70th Street, next to the Linden Square bandstand and park.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a back-to-school fair at the Gladstone Hy-Vee that includes the dietitian offering healthy lunch and snack ideas.
At 10:30 a.m., Kansas City Zoo staff and docents will provide touchable artifacts and bring animals for an informal presentation and discussion at the Antioch branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library, 6060 N. Chestnut Ave. Call 454-1306 to register.
At noon, murder mystery theater comes to Gladstone with Lee Mueller’s “Murder Me Always,” a murder play within a murder play. The show needs 11 characters including five men, four women and two nonspecific. Stage and improv experience are helpful but not required.
