The Gladstone City Council issued a proclamation at the Aug. 23 meeting recognizing Sept. 17 to 23 as Constitution Week.
The proclamation, which was presented to the Daughters of the American Revolution, took note that September 2021 marks the 234th anniversary of the drafting of the U.S. Constitution by the Constitutional Convention.
Also during the meeting, the council marked the announcement of City Clerk Ruth Bocchino’s retirement by declaring Aug. 26 as Ruth Bocchino Recognition Day, honoring her eight years of dedicated service to the city.
In other news, the council authorized a contract with Royal Construction Services for the Municipal Pool Bathhouse Renovation Project.
They also approved a contract with Shockey Consulting Services to conduct a comprehensive plan update — reviewing all current documents and plans in place, engaging the community to understand key issues and conducting market analysis that results in recommendations for updates.
The city is also financing and acquiring new radio equipment for police and fire departments, which includes an agreement with Motorola Solutions for the purchase of radio equipment and accessories.
Through the Aug. 23 consent agenda, the council approved: a resolution accepting work done by Epoxy Coating Specialists for the Indoor Pool Deck Project; a resolution accepting a proposal from Hutchinson Salt Company for the purchase of snow removal salt on an as-needed basis; a Special Event Permit for Gladfest, taking place from Oct. 1 to 3; and the financial report for the month-end for July 2021.
