KANSAS CITY — The KC Air Show presented by Garmin is expected to alternate between the Clay County site where it has been held in the past and a new site in Kansas, starting in 2020.
The show’s move to New Century Air Center comes after years of holding the show at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport.
The show is expected to alternate locations between New Century Air Center and Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport every other year.
The air show will host the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Flight Demonstration Team at New Century Air Center on Sept. 5 and 6.
This will be the Thunderbirds’ first appearance in the Kansas City area since 2008.
“We are delighted to announce what will be a wall-to-wall weekend of the best of the best military, civilian and classic warbird performers,” said Kerry Floyd, president of the KC Air Show. “We are excited to be able to bring the Thunderbirds back to our KC Air Show fans for the first time in 12 years.”
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team will be featured July 3 and 4, 2021, at the Wheeler Downtown Airport.
“It is quite an honor for an air show to be selected by the Thunderbirds or Blues and the competition by shows for their limited dates is fierce,” said Floyd. “As a reconstituted, basically new show, we are incredibly grateful that the jet teams want to come to us.”
