North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health named Steven Starr interim chief medical officer of the hospital. In this role, Starr’s primary responsibilities will include credentialing and peer review while also representing the medical staff on the leadership team, according to a hospital press release.

Starr has been a cardiologist with Meritas Health Cardiology since 1994. He serves on the medical staff’s executive and credentials committees, is chair of the cardiovascular subcommittee and is The Joint Commission Comprehensive Cardiac Center physician leader for the hospital. While serving as interim CMO, he will continue to practice as a cardiologist.

“I look forward to helping lead the hospital’s efforts to meet the needs of the community we serve,” Starr said.

Starr will also collaborate with Kenna Belshe, vice president and chief clinical officer of NKCH and medical director of Meritas Health, to align the entire medical staff to the health system’s strategic plan.

Starr is an American College of Cardiology fellow and has been in practice for almost 30 years.
