Paxton Sherman, 4, dresses as Luke Skywalker from “Star Wars” in his own Landspeeder in a previous Little Mr. and Miss Gladfest competition. This year’s pageant is Oct. 4. The sign-up deadline is Sept. 27.

Gladfest, being held this year Oct. 4 to 6, will travel through time with the theme of “Flying Through 40 Years of Gladfest Fun.” In addition to the carnival, there will be other activities for children to participate in this year.

The Little Mr. and Miss Gladfest starts at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.

The pageant is for boys and girls ages 3 to 8. Children age 3 to 6 will compete for the titles of Gladfest Prince and Princess while older children will compete for Little Mr. and Miss Gladfest.

The participants will be featured on the Linden Square Stage and must be able to answer questions from the emcee before presenting their talent. They can sing acapella or recite a poem or nursery rhyme. Contestants are encouraged to dress according to the Gladfest theme so all fairies, flying superheroes and other fun characters are welcome.

“I want the kids to have fun when they are up on the stage,” said Jeana Tetzlaff, the emcee for the pageant. “This will be my 11th year organizing the pageant and I look forward to what the kids will say when they answer questions.”

The four winners must be available for the Gladfest parade, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

There is no fee and the entry forms are available at www.gladstonechamber.com. Entries are limited to the first 30 kids. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 27.
