Alpen Spielers plays Friday in NKC

Betty Jo Simon, leader of the Alpen Spielers, brings endless enthusiasm to the stage as vocalist, accordionist and music arranger. Mark Cohick has been a freelance woodwind player in the Kansas City area for over 25 years, and has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet, and Lyric Opera, as well as the Starlight Theater Orchestra, Kansas City Repertory Theater and Theater League productions. Paul Rodabaugh provides the ensemble with a solid foundation playing tuba and alphorn, playing many styles of music, including symphonic, Dixieland, musicals and ethnic.

The Alpen Spielers will bring the music of Germany to Friday in the Park at North Kansas City's Festival Pavilion in Macken Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.

Social distancing guidelines will be in place. All concerts are free and open to the public, and every event features a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses.

This year marks 42 years of live music in North Kansas City at the Festival Pavilion. The park offers parking, playgrounds, restrooms and handicap accessibility.

The concert series is sponsored by North Kansas City. For more information, visit www.nkc.org or contact NKC City Hall at 274-6000.
